Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230401-B9339-2147348336. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: LG OLED65C7P (LG OLED HDTV (Model #OLED65C7P) DIMENSIONS/WEIGHTS Without Stand (WxHxD) 57.2" x 32.8" x 1.8" With Stand (WxHxD) 57.2" x 34.4" x 8.5" Shipping (WxHxD) 66.0" x 37.4" x 8.1"Without Stand Weight 50.3 lbs With Stand Weight 54.5 lbs Shipping Weight 72.1 lbs Full details here: https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-OLED65C7P-oled-4k-tv). Incident: While watching TV I smelled burning plastic, upon investigation I noticed the back panel of my LG HDTV had melted and was burnt. I contacted LG about the issue as I discovered they had listed my TV's model (OLED65C7P) for a recall due to faulty power supplies: [REDACTED] [REDACTED] They had an independent certified repair tech ([REDACTED]) come to investigate and document the case . The tech came out with parts in hand to repair the TV, however once he opened it and saw the damage (while on a video call with LG) he said he would need to replace more components then what he had on hand. LG was going to cover the cost of the repair initially however they then seemingly changed their mind due to the extra parts needed (a new screen) and the tech left without replacing anything. The tech refused to complete the repair due to fire safety concerns, unless all affected components were replaced as he didn't want any liability (the screen is still working). I've since been on multiple support calls with LG [REDACTED]. The TV has only ever been used as intended and was always connected to a APC UPS battery backup getting clean power, so the problem didn't occur from a power surge or brown out. I have also found multiple other reports of this issue online in forms with some people experiencing their TV catching on fire.
