Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230529-4113E-2147347313. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: EGO power+ EGO power+ BA2800 56V 5.0Ah battery - 2018 product (EGO power+ BA2800 56V 5.0Ah battery - 2018 production year EGO power+ CH5500 56V rapid charger - 2018 production year EGO power+ CH2100 56V normal charger - 2022 production year). Incident: I have experienced two electrical fires while using chargers and a battery produced by EGO power+. The first electrical fire happened around June 2022 using charger model CH5500 and a battery model BA2800 and ocurred shortly after plugging the battery into the charger. The failure tripped a breaker which secured power to the charger and the fire went out imediately. After calling EGO power+ customer service, they decided to replace the charger but not the battery. Now on 27 May 2023, I had a second fire while charging the same battery that was claimed to be fine after the first fire. The second charger was model CH2100 with the same BA2800 battery. The second electrical fire ocurred immediately after plugging in the battery to the charger, this time it did not trip the breaker and I had to secure power to the electrical fire by unplugging the charger. In each case, different outlets were used, each which has other devices plugged in which function normally. Again, EGO is replacing the charger but claiming the battery is fine. I believe the battery is causing the chargers to fail catastrophically and the "smart" technology in the battery monitoring system is not identifying an issue which has caused multiple fires from chargers in my house. EGO is once again claiming the battery is safe for continued use. No injuries have ocurred during either of these incidents.
