Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230718-B2F73-2147346342. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire EFIC237-SSBLACK (Frigidaire Ice Maker EFIC237, Black, a table top ice maker, 11.65 in. x 16.93 in. x 20.87 in.). Incident: Frigidaire Ice Maker EFIC237 (purchased from Costco -- near equivalent to [REDACTED] sold elsewhere?); noticed a strong burning smell one morning coming from the ice maker. The ice maker was plugged in at the time and running. Immediately unplugged the device and stopped usage since. Decided to investigate the cause and found the part of the control board charred. As there had been many reports/product reviews of failures for this product, I decided to make a report in case there are others out there that have experienced similar or even worse as a result of this ice maker. Potential fire hazard! The manufacturer must be held accountable for the high defect rate and potentially fatal consequences. No injuries occurred (other than to the one in my wallet).
