Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230826-60866-2147345545. Matched catalog product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2. Source model text: BVMC-EHX33BM-NP. Incident: In May of 2023 I purchased a Mr. Coffee machine. After several uses, one day I noticed that the new machine activated on its own when not in use. The hot plate on the machine that keeps the pot warm was very hot to to touch and would burn someone, which is possible given that the machine was not activated by the user and showed nothing on the display/LEDs indicating it had turned on. The machine had clearly failed "on", the display was blank and it was unresponsive to button pushes.
