Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20231213-BB18F-2147343461. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG #LREL6321S (LG 30-in Glass Top 5 Elements 6.3-cu ft Freestanding Smart Electric Range (Stainless Steel)). Incident: I purchased a brand new LG glass top range in October of 2021 from Lowes. On 12/11/23 I noticed the smell of burnt plastic. I immediately got up to investigate the smell where it lead me to my kitchen. After standing there for a few seconds I noticed light smoke ventilating through the top side of the range where the knobs, display screen are located. I immediately pulled out the range from the wall and unplugged the range from the outlet. I started removing all screws from the back panel. The smoke never stopped, once I got the cover off I noticed the plastic connection in the harness was burning with an actual flame. I made sure the fire was extinguished before leaving the range. Now wires are stripped of the coating exposing copper wires and melted plastic on the connector. The range is still sitting in this condition because of the fear of it burning my house down. And LG is not cooperating or taking the safety of my family into consideration to resolve this matter. They continually tell me another department will be in touch when I attempt to call and follow up on this matter. I have two small children and unable to cook meals for them.
