Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20231228-B9DD7-2147343182. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG WT1501CW (Top loading washing machine). Incident: Our LG top-loading washing machine exploded. On Saturday, 11/25/2023 around 5:30pm there was an enormous boom that shook our home. The sound it made was frighteningly loud. My husband, daughter(visiting) and I came running from different rooms. My daughter arrived in the laundry room first to find that the washing machine was pushed out from the wall and that the sides of the machine were buckled and damaged. We hit pause (it was still running), unplugged the machine, and turned the water off. There was only one item in the machine, a mattress pad cover which has been washed numerous times in this machine. The machine was in the final spin cycle. There were no unusual sounds or advance warning before the explosion. This machine is only 5 years old. As a household of two seniors, our laundry usage is very modest which makes this even more shocking.
