Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240107-C9F34-2147342951. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: Fellow EE01AA1A (Fellow Stagg EKG electric kettle). Incident: I have a Fellow Stagg electric kettle which suddenly started violently spouting boiling water during the boiling process during which the electric base would be completely drenched in boiling water. Water would be spouted up to 1 foot away from the kettle. I reported this to the manufacturer immediately, recommending a recall due to this extreme danger of burning and electric shock, however they did not seem to be interested and blamed me for a user error instead. As it turns out, this issue is due to a manufacturing error. I found that the filling lid for my kettle has a set of venting holes which were misaligned during the manufacturing process, and the kettle cannot relieve enough pressure through the venting holes in the filling lid during the boiling process, I had recommended to the manufacturer to recall the product and redesign the product with a set screw that would prevent any misalignment of these vent holes. However, they do not seem to be interested. I urge you to immediately force a recall of this product. As I found out, I am not the only person with this problem as you can for example, see a [REDACTED] thread on this topic: [REDACTED] Judging by the age of this thread, I must assume that the manufacturer has been aware of this problem for a long time. I burnt myself with the hot water coming out of the kettle.
