Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240119-DC5D3-2147342635. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2 (Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker Model #: BVMC-BVMC-PC14BL2 Color: Black & Stainless Steel SAP #: 2143561). Incident: On September 21, 2023, I purchased a Mr. Coffee 14-cup coffee maker (Model #: BVMC-PC14BL2) from my local Wal-Mart. On December 22, 2023, I discovered that after the 4-hour warming timer expired, the Brew Now light turned off, indicating that it had shut down, but the warmer was still extremely hot and when I attempted to add water for a programmed delayed brew the next morning, it began trying to brew immediately, even though the Brew light was still turned off. The only way to make it turn off was to unplug it. Thinking it was a fluke, I returned the defective coffee maker to WalMart on December 21, 2023, and exchanged it for a new one of the same model. Yesterday, January 18, less than 30 days after purchase, this new one did the exact same thing. There are numerous reviews on WalMart and other sites for this coffee maker of other customers experiencing this exact same issue. I believe that this product is not only defective, but poses both a burn injury risk and a fire hazard, and needs to be recalled. I called Mr. Coffee this morning to advise them of this, and they did offer me a refund. However, I believe that this product is extremely dangerous and needs to be recalled.
