Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240201-C96AC-2147341331. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kidde Smoke Alarm model P4010DCS-W and p4010DCSCO-W. Source model text: Kidde Combo Smoke/CO Alarm Model # KN-COSM-IB. Incident: On Jan 30th, 2024, I was replacing the low battery in my Kidde Combination Smoke/CO Alarm Model KN-COSM-IB when I noticed the manufacturing date 2013, Oct 17. I started researching if it has a lifespan and if it should be replaced. That is when I learned about a safety recall notice - https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2017/Kidde-Recalls-Combination-Smoke-CO-Alarms. I learned from the recall notice that after the end of their life, these alarms are supposed to chirp until they are replaced. I contacted customer service, and they refused to replace these units even though they are faulty and have failed to notify me and my family that they should have been replaced after their end of life. I have two of these units installed in my house, and I was under the wrong impression they were working and saving my life. Even though the manufacturing date is later than what is mentioned in the recall notice, they are the same model with the same issue. Clearly, this company hadn't stopped making and selling this faulty model even after the dates mentioned in the recall notice, and my two units prove it so. They were supposed to chirp after the end of their life, and they haven't. I have been replacing the battery whenever there was a chirp for low battery, and they have been quiet after the replacement. It seems even the units made after the date in the recall notice of this model have the same problem. Can something be done about this faulty and dangerous product that fails to notify its own
