Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240305-C24C7-2147340593. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Hisense 58R6E3 (Hisense 58" Television). Incident: Hisense Television Model 58R6E3. The television began emitting white smoke from the area of the power supply (internal). I removed the power supply/main board combo unit's rear protective plastic cover, then the board combo itself, to examine it for points of failure. I found brown char marks on a local component (plastic housing) and blackening wire along with two adjacent failed (bulging) capacitors. Quick internet and [REDACTED] searching reveals that these two capacitors fail frequently (after only a couple years of use; 10,000 hours, in my case). However, I have not found another report of smoke or fire consequent of these capacitors' failure; other users complain that their televisions simply won't turn on. Mine worked properly while smoking, and only stopped smoking when the television was disconnected from mains power. No injuries or property damage; however, had I been sleeping or not within the vicinity of the television to see the smoke when it began smoking, the television could have caught fire and burned the house down (potentially causing my death). UPDATED ON 3/6/2024: [I have found another incident comparable to mine; note that the model is not identical, implying that more than one model number of Hisense television is affected and must be recalled immediately. Please also note that I called Hisense only for my statements to be spoken-over with "out of warranty" nonsense. Hisense makes dangerous products and the evidently do not care to take appropriate actions to rectify them.]
