Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240312-7DAFE-2147340415. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Blitzu Gator 320 (The product is a rechargeable bicycle headlight.). Incident: On Monday, March 11, 2024 my son came to me and said his headlight did not work on his bike. He also indicated there was a chemical smell coming from the light. I looked at the light charging port and noticed the weather cover was melted. There were not any injuries that happened, but did result in low visibility while riding his bike that night, which could increase the risk of a crash. The battery discharge could have led to a burn. I work in a product safety position for a career, so I went to the device and began to remove the outer cover. I found the lithium battery included in the light to be damaged specifically it was shorted out against the charging port. upon further review, I found the two screws that attached the mounting plate at the bottom of the light were extended and damage the outer case of the lithium battery. I will be filing a complaint with the manufacturer on Amazon where I purchased this in September 2022.
