Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240402-48144-2147340007. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Solar Camping Collapsible Lantern No Model Number (LED Solar Camping Lantern DIBMS LED Collapsible Portable Solar AC Rechargeable Lantern Flashlight Waterproof Survival Lights for Camping Hurricanes Emergencies Power Outages Homes Indoor Outdoor). Incident: I have (4) rechargeable camping lanterns purchased from Amazon. They were sold stating they had 1600mah rechargeable batteries, recharged by traditional AC or solar. One failed, and would not charge. So I took it apart at the solar panel to reveal that the batteries are not rechargeable, but (3) AAA Duracell, consumer one-time use batteries connected in a series, clearly marked do not recharge. Based on this being having the ability to be charged by 110V, the batteries in these lanterns could result in an explosion and fire. Immediately reported this to Amazon 2 April 2024 and stated that they needed to remove this product and find out about exact same-looking products under a different name into whether they have fraudulent batteries. These need to be recalled for explosion hazard. Have pictures/evidence of battery issue from a failed light, and another one taken apart. Two are still intact.
