Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240520-2DA60-2147339109. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LSE4611ST (Slide in LG glass top range Model #LSE4611ST. Black glass top with Stainless steel trim.). Incident: while using the LG LSE4611ST slide in range I noticed that the knobs on the front were very easy to turn on. When reaching over the stove to get in microwave my stomach would push against the knob and the burner would come on. It took very little pressure to push and turn knobs. One time I set some groceries that were in a soft sided cooler next to the stove. I must have brushed against the knob because when I turned around the burner was turned on and the cooler was on fire. I reported this to LG and they sent a repair man out to replace the knobs. The knobs were the same as the replaced on and continued to do the same thing. Several times the same thing had happened however, there was nothing on the stove, so I just turned it off. The last time it happened I had placed a plastic egg carton on the stove while making breakfast on an electric griddle. I took plates to the table and returned to kitchen and the plastic was all melted om the burner. I turned the burner off and removed the carton . I let the burner cool then tried to scrape the plastic off with a razor blade, but shards of glass were coming off with the plastic. I was afraid to use the stove after that. I reported this to LG but they said it was out of warranty and refused to do anything. I had the call escalated to manager who did nothing. I asked to have the call escalated to a corporate manager. She called me and advise me they could not replace glass top but she would text me a 15% coupon to use on the LG website toward a new range. Needless to say, I never received the text or coupon.
