Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240620-74E52-2147338495. Matched catalog product: Frigidaire FFTR1821TDO or Q Model Type is AD-18. Source model text: MWV150KBA. Incident: I am a fire investigator and was called to investigate a past fire incident concerning an over the range microwave appliance. The occupant had returned home and noticed a burning plastic smell in the apartment. They then found a small fire in the microwave, which was not in use at the time. They described that when they opened the door to the microwave, the issue stopped. When they shut the door, the microwave made a buzzing or humming sound and started burning again. They opened the door back up to make it stop and then called maintenance. They later determined that it was electrical arcing/sparking. They recalled that the microwave had arced in the past as well. They stated that the microwave was last used by their babysitter to warm up a bottle approximately 20 minutes before they got home and noticed the smell and fire inside the microwave.
