Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240620-CC6D2-2147338503. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Ninja Ninja Auto IQ 1000W Blender. Source model text: SS101. Incident: The blender does not include any directions whatsoever on cleaning the rubber gasket around the blade. I have been following all the directions in the manual and couldnt understand why an awful smell was coming from the blade. After searching online I found that people are having to use crochet hooks to remove the gasket to clean them. Mine is covered in mold and has to be thrown away. Ninjas solution is for consumers to purchase a whole new blade that will include a new gasket at a total cost of almost half the blender as its not covered under warranty even though this is a defect in design. Directions need to be included on how this should be cleaned after every use and a tool should be provided in the box to do so. This is a serious health hazard. Third party companies are having to step in to help consumers solve this problem in order to keep their unit working in a healthy manner. If this unit was used in a commercial setting without being cleaned properly I can only imagine the problems it would cause.
