Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240724-50851-2147337772. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus Multi-use Pressure Cooker (Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus [REDACTED] link... [REDACTED]). Incident: My Instant Pot Duo spontaneously arced and caught fire. It was plugged in, but not in use for weeks and did not even have a pot liner in it. The fire response report indicates the instant pot was the source of the fire and that there were possible arcing marks. It was on top of the gas range, but the gas range has never been used and I've been there 6 years. The instant pot was regularly used 2/3 times a week. I reported it to instant pot customer service and they basically poo pooed it. I'm reporting out of concern for public safety. I arrived 20 seconds before fire rescue and was able to get my dog out. There was nothing around the pot to catch fire, so the building survived and the fire was basically out when the fire department arrived. Heavy smoke damage. Here is a link to to 12 minutes of the event. I have 90 minutes of video from before the flash to fire rescue removing the smoke. Here is the [REDACTED] link... [REDACTED] I also uploaded a shorter video.
