Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240802-A739D-2147337540. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: UpwardBaby UpwardBaby Silicone Suction Bowls (The product is the UpwardBaby silicone bowls. I have the colors gray, blue, and green. The dimensions are 5.12"W x 2.36"H. I bought them off Amazon.). Incident: This morning as I was feed my one year old breakfast we had a shocking situation occur. I was feeding him yogurt in a Upward Baby silicone bowl. My 1 year old has learned to pick them up and throw them on the ground. This morning he decided he wanted to lick the remaining yogurt out of his bowl. I thought it was cute/funny at first until the silicone bowl suctioned to his face. He tried to pull the bowl of his face and had no luck it was airtight. Thankfully I was sitting right there and immediately went into action and pushed my finger under the rim of the bowl and broke the suction and was able to pull it off before anything terrible happened. It was a terrifying experience the silicone bowl could have suffocated him. What if I had stepped away for a minute to use the restroom or had turned my back to wash a few dishes. It would have been silent it could have been life threatening. Im thankful I always watch my child while he eats. But what if another parent doesnt. Or they dont even consider that this could happen. I could have never imagined that his bowl could really hurt him.
