Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240809-9FFF4-2147337344. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung NX58M6630SS (Samsung True Convection 30-in 5 Burners 5.8-cu ft Self-cleaning Convection Oven Freestanding Natural Gas Range (Stainless Steel) Capacity (Cu. Feet) 5.8 Cutout Depth (Inches) 21.125 Cutout Height (Inches) 19 Cutout Width (Inches) 25 Depth (Inches) 25.9375). Incident: On multiple occasions, I have unintentionally turned the knob to the on position on our Samsung gas stove. Sometimes it is only on enough to where gas is being released, others it is turned enough to release gas and start the igniter. The burner has produced fire some of the times the igniter was started. This happens quite often by simply bumping into or leaning on the knob. It has also happened with our teenagers. If the igniter is not started, there is no sound and natural gas is released into our home until the knob is turned to the off position. The only reason we know it is happening is the blue light that comes on around the knob. If this ever happens when there is no electricity, such as during natural disasters or other power outages, we may not be aware that natural gas is being released in our home. This could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, fire, and death. So far we have been lucky and noticed when the stove has been turned on unintentionally and no injuries have occurred.
