Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241002-09480-2147336194. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Breville Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL. Source model text: BOV450XL. Incident: On four occasions our Breville Mini Smart Oven Model # BOV450XL, turned itself on (with the dial on bake) and proceeded to begin heating for a bake cycle with timed count down. Luckily the first time this happened the "buzzing" of the oven woke my son, who unplugged it early this morning. Testing the oven afterward three times... plugging it , it will sit for about 10 minutes and automatically turn on; I verified this using different electrical circuits. I did call Breville Support who is sending a shipping label to diagnose the problem and will quote on a repair. I am shocked to discover the "fail state" for this appliance is "ON" and not "OFF".. which seems to the a fire hazard.
