Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241103-EA90F-2147335572. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: SaluSpa S100105. Incident: While attempting to use my SaluSpa hot tub as directed, I and another person experienced scalding water temperature when the AirJet pump and heating unit was set to 104 degrees F. The actual temperature of the water was not measured at the time but was estimated to be closer to 115-120 degrees F. The ambient temperature of the outside air was around 40 degrees F. I stepped in fully unknowing of the water temperature and immediately got out of the hot tub, noticing that my lower body appeared to have first degree burns. The burns were not severe enough for me to seek medical attention, but I did experience pain for the following two or three hours following the incident. I'm now aware of the safety recall on this product and wonder if this has something to do with a faulty heating element or thermostat of the AirJet unit. I did not photograph my injuries at the time of the incident.
