Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241107-EE4E6-2147335486. Severity: Injury, Emergency Department Treatment Received. Product: Swagtron SG-5 (Swagtron SG-5 Swagger 5 Boost Commuter App-Enabled Electric Scooter with Upgraded 300W Motor and 1-Click Quick Folding, Silver). Incident: I saw a recall for the Swagtron SG-5 scooter for risk of fire and felt the need to report an incident I experienced. While riding on the scooter, the mechanism that was supposed to secure the top/handle part of the scooter disconnected after crossing a storm grate, and caused me to fall/crash at the max speed. I was then taken to the emergency room for fear I'd injured my neck and back. Imaging showed I did not injure my neck but did cause swelling and thus agrivation of a healed back injury that I was unaware of. I also had some pretty bad road rash on my shoulder which took approx 9 days to fully heal. The next day I started feeling pain in the knee, and hand and arm that took the brunt of the fall. No additional structural damage was found through x-rays, but I was sent for 7 weeks of physical therapy. The back and knee still cause significant pain often.
