Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241117-08A75-2147335210. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14APH8 (Legion Slim 5 14APH8 Serial number:PF4KG79N Product number:82Y5000AUS Bios version:MACN29WW). Incident: I received a Lenovo laptop 2/25/24 from Best Buy. Today I had my laptop closed, laying on my bed charging while I cleaned my house. I was in an adjacent room when I smelled the familiar smell of burning electronics. I went to investigate and found my Legion Slim 5 14APH8 too hot to hold from the bottom. I moved the laptop to my nightstand so that it could breathe thinking being on the bed caused some sort of issue. I opened the laptop so it awoke from sleep and the fans turned on to cool it down. Assuming the issue was fixed I closed the laptop again and left it on my nightstand. About an hour later I finished cleaning and went to do some work with the laptop. When I went to pick it up it was again extremely hot. I did a quick [REDACTED] search and came across this [REDACTED] thread [REDACTED] which led me to this thread started on Lenovo's website in 2/24 [REDACTED] They appear to know about the issue but have not yet fixed it. I am terrified to think of what could have happened to my house if I had left the laptop charging all day as it was really heating up the lithium battery.
