Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241119-482E8-2147335178. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire EFMIS129-BLACK (Frigidaire 0.3ncu.ft. 6 -Can Retro Mini Fridge in Black). Incident: I purchased a Frigidaire Mini fridge for my son on December 3, 2022 from Home Depot. It worked well. On November 9 of this year I noticed it wasn't running. I looked to see if it was on and noticed the power switch is charred and the item no longer works. It appears that there were some type of sparks around the power switch based on the color of the surrounding area. This was sitting in front of a lamp with a paper lamp shade and could have caused a fire in my son's room. I contacted Frigidaire to let them know that this is a safety issue. A lot of children have these in their bedrooms. They responded with a form email letting me know that I was out of warranty. I was not asking Frigidaire for compensation or to have the product replaced. I did have a warranty through Home Depot and they are planning to refund me the purchase price of the item. I care more about it being a safety issue as lot of kids have these.
