Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250123-C2CBE-2147333704. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: Whirlpool WFG320M0BW (Whirlpool 5.1 cu. ft. Freestanding Gas Range with UnderOven Broiler in white). Incident: Whirlpool 5.1 cu. ft. Freestanding Gas Range with UnderOven Broiler Model: WFG320M0BW Serial: VE74749275 While I (36 year old female) was baking chicken at 425F the front glass door of my Whirlpool oven suddenly shattered without warning. The glass broke into tiny shards across my kitchen floor and some on the countertops, sizzling on impact on the tile floor. I had to pick a few small glass shards from my hand and feet, which I had to remove myself. This is the second safety issue Ive experienced with this same model. In 2018, shortly after purchasing the oven, the glass door became dangerously hot to the touch. Whirlpool replaced the unit with the same model, but the overheating issue appears to have persisted, ultimately causing the glass to shatter. The oven was being used for routine cooking at the time of the incident. Safety hazard extending to my family of 6, including 4 children and 3 pets.
