Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250126-154DE-2147333640. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Hamilton Beach Griddle Model# 38518R, Power Adapter Model# ZL203 (Hamilton Beach Durathon Ceramic Griddle; griddle model# 38518R, series A2122; power adapter model #ZL203 200 sq in non-stick griddle I cannot locate manufacture date or code on the item). Incident: In 2019 I purchased a Hamilton Beach (electric) Ceramic Griddle. In 2023 I noted the power adapter reaching untouchable temperatures exceeding 150 degrees. Later that year, I noted one of the inputs on the adapter had burned and ash was present. I reported this incident to Hamilton Beach and after significant persistence on my part, they replaced the griddle and adapter. In the fall of 2024, I noted once again that the new adapter was reaching these same temperatures making it impossible to handle without a potholder. I reached out to Hamilton Beach and was informed this was normal as it was a heating mechanism. In January 2025, I noted the inside of one of the inputs was once again beginning to burn. This seems to be a significant safety hazard that could start a fire.
