Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250207-A651A-2147333368. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: Whirlpool WFC150M0EW0 (Electric Range. A freestanding electric range with an oven and four top burners. Model Number: WFC150M0EW0 Serial Number: R70761680). Incident: In March 2017 we obtained an electric range from Home Depot. We immediately started having problems with the back-left burner becoming extremely hot when the oven was on but the burner itself was off. Myself and other family members have accidentally touched the burner and have obtained burns. This is a design flaw that can lead to serious injury and/or death since it is also a fire hazard. After burning myself last year I finally decided to report the range to Whirlpool. On March 12, 2024, I sent the following email to Whirlpool (whirlpool_customerexperience@whirlpool.com): Hello: Model Number: WFC150M0EW0 Serial Number: R70761680 Date of Purchase: March 2017 Dealers Name: Home Depot There is a design flaw with the oven that makes using it very dangerous. The oven vents out through the back-left burner such that a pot of water will boil on the burner when the burner is OFF but the oven is on. I am very surprised the oven has not been recalled due to this design defect. I have burned myself numerous times accidentally on the back burner when the burners were completely turned off and the oven was on because the burner gets too hot; it is easy to forget sometimes to avoid the burner when the oven is on but the burner is off because it is very unusual for burners to get so hot when they are off. I've also accidentally melted/burned items that were too close to the burner while the oven was on and the burner was off. I have to continuously warn people who use the oven to not touch the back left burner and to make sure nothing is near it so that nothing burns or catches fire. I
