Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250227-0F52E-2147332882. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Aeboren Model 130224010 (Rechargeable aftermarket [REDACTED] 14.4 volt batteries compatible sold through ebay seller "first_battery2022", The batteries have a manufacturers label that says "Aeboren Power Tool Battery" 14.4 V 4.8AH 69.12 Wh" Model 130224010. Battery type NI_MH. Made in China. Manufacturer: SZYDZS). Incident: I purchased a set of two [REDACTED] 14.4 volt compatible batteries on Ebay. I plugged them into properly working factory [REDACTED] 14.4 volt chargers for an initial charge. After about an hour I went into the garage to see how they were charging and I immediately smelled something burning. Both batteries in both chargers had overheated, melted and severely deformed and started leaking acid into the chargers. I unplugged the chargers and dragged everything outside as I was afraid a fire would start. I filed a complaint with the seller and was ignored so ebay is handling the return for credit. My concern is when reading reviews from other buyers they have also had problems with melting batteries, leaking acid and nearly had fires themselves. This information is available through ebay or I can provide a copy of the reviews. My concern based on the history of these obviously defective batteries is someone is going to have a house go up in flames if it has not already happened. These batteries need to be recalled and the seller punished for knowingly selling defective dangerous merchandise. I can provide pictures of the melted batteries and my correspondence with ebay and copies of reviews from other purchasers who have had the same problem with these batteries.
