Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250301-F2025-2147332829. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Instant Pot Duo 60 v5 (Instant Pot, pressure cooker, slow cooker). Incident: I was using my Instant Pot and I heard poping or spark noise, hard to describe sound. Suddenly all lights flashing and beeping noise. I hurried and unplugged it. I looked up on line what this error code was and found it to be a defective heating element. Prior to using it for dinner on Thursday the inside was fine I only ever wiped it with a dry paper towel because nothing gets in the inside only the removable pot. However after the popping and blinking with beeping. I took removable food pot out and the bottom of the pot the paint was literally bubbled like it was burned. Apparently this is a KNOWN PROBLEM. My concern is this could catch houses on fire this is an electrical issue. At first they tried to blame me but I asked for a supervisor because I have never done anything wrong to this, I use it maybe 1/2 times a week. Sometimes I go for weeks without using it. However I never misused it like they tried to blame me. The error code on front is clear indication that this is an electrical problem. I felt like since this is a known problem on line. A problem the company hasnt made a recall over, I should make a report, because if someone was using it in slow cooker mode and this electrical heating element went out it could potentially start an electrical fire. I would have expected Instant Pot to recall items with known electrical issues. But I did not see anything that shows a recall on line.
