Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250421-45DDB-2147331811. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: LG DLG7401WE (LG 7.3 cu ft Gas Dryer Model DLG7401WE). Incident: Gas Dryer LG DLG7401WE caught fire. We immediately turned off and disconnected the unit from power when it began to smell of burnt lint. When the unit was opened the following day it was discovered that the entire bottom of the unit where all the componentry resides was covered in lint with the majority of it being charred from the incident. The unit was only 26 months old at the time of the incident and the lint trap was regularly cleaned after each load for our home use. It's clear from this result that the lint trap or another area of the dryer is ineffective in capturing all the lint resulting in the massive amount surrounding the components thus causing the fire. Luckily there were no injuries or property damage which could have been a reality had we not smelled the burning within moments of starting the unit.
