Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250522-15237-2147331154. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE GDP670SYV0FS (GE dishwasher). Incident: On a fairly new GE dishwasher that was purchased at Lowes the lower rack carrying assembly fell off and dropped onto the heating element causing it to melt down. Luckily the smell alerted us to a problem and we were able to shut the dishwasher down before it ignited. On inspecting the problem and ordering a new lower rack carrier from [REDACTED] I noticed several comments on others having the exact same problem on the same machine. Upon receiving the part I immediately noticed that the roller assembly was completely different than the one that came with the machine and caused the problem . In fact even though I only ordered what I assumed and looked like on the parts diagram I received a set of four with instructions telling you to replace all 4 lower rack roller assemblies. My problem with this is that GE obviously knew they had a dangerous problem with the older rack assembly hence the new design but the only way we ever found out was by having to buy a replacement after the problem happened. I feel like GE is trying to cover a very potential fire hazard on this product.
