Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250603-4C3FB-2147330863. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Red Shed C12112003 (The light was a RED SHED 100 lumens LED solar hanging light, one of five I had purchased. It is a shaded hanging light in teal, manufactured for Tractor Supply in China.). Incident: I stepped outside today, June 3, 2025, to cut the grass, and it smelled something like someone burning insulation off of wires. I got the lawn mower out of the shed, and when walking toward the front of the house, saw that the roof was on fire, where one of the solar collectors for my porch lights was located. I rang the doorbell, and told my wife the solar panel was on fire, she brought a fire extinguisher and I put out the flames. I then got on the roof, and removed the smoldering parts of the panel, and sections of the shingles that were on fire. I also found what I think are the end caps of a battery in the lawn, about 20 ft from the house. Had I not exited the house, and smelled the collector and then saw the flames, or if I was not home, the entire house could have burnt down, as the shingles were already on fire, and I live in the country. I had no idea that this product was burning while I was inside the house.
