Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250605-A1315-2147330801. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: X-Sense XP01-W (Batch ZN20211019001) (X-Sense XP01-W Interlinked combination Smoke/CO detector (6-pack) 10-year Battery). Incident: Smoke/CO detector can fail to stay activated silently and provide false positives of functioning properly. This product turns on when attached to it's mount. The on/off switch is actuated during the twisting motion that occurs when connecting the detector to it's mount. Over multiple installs the on/off switch wears out causing a weak connection of the switch. When a worn product is installed the smoke detector will blink as if it was successful and good battery. The test button can even work and beep the alarm for you. But when the detector relaxes and is unstrained the on/off button can be disconnected disabling the product. This product is a 10-year battery life smoke detector, so there is less interaction from the user ensuring it is functional. Additionally 3 out of 6 that I purchased had this problem. The new version of the product does change the on/off switch. A related concern is how the mount itself isnt stiff enough to ensure proper engagement of the on/off switch. The mount has to be secured against a firm surface to ensure the mount isnt able to flex and turn the unit off. To explain a bit more of the relaxing of the unit. By pressing the test button you compress the entire unit that in turn provides additional pressure to the internal on/off switch. This action will cause the unit to beep. Once the test button is released, the additional pressure is removed from the on/off switch turning the unit off.
