SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250610-961BC-2147330617. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener (Its an electric can opener, a Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener, black). Incident: My Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener, shot electrical sparks out on the counter after I moved it. UPDATED ON 7/3/2025: [In response to this reply I received after filing my report, in order to elaborate on what the risk of harm was, is that If I was in physical contact of the metal pieces of the can opener and completed the circuit with my hand, I would have burned my hand at the very least, and If one hand was on the metal, while any other part of my body was touching something that was connected to ground, I would have 15 AMPs of current passing through my Heart, which would kill me instantly. Luckily I didn�t touch the metal on the can opener so all that happened was I was startled when the sparks came out, which missed me or anything flammable. It�s also entirely possible that a short like this could have caused a fire, in which the house would be destroyed killing the occupants. ]
