Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250904-117A2-2147328098. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire EFMIS175-BLACK (I purchased the Frigidaire 9-can beverage cooler (EFMIS222-BLACK) from Sam's Club in February of last year. The product label on the listing says that it's model # EFMIS175-BLACK, but the manufacturer says that it is actually EFMIS222-BLACK.). Incident: My son had the Frigidaire 9-can beverage cooler (model EFMIS222-BLACK) that I purchased from Sam's Club last year. It caught on fire on 8/27/25. My son wasn't home, but luckily I was and put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but it caught his bookshelf on fire. It had a few energy drink cans inside and was not crowded on the shelf. There were no injuries, but if I had not been home, it would have burned the house down. It was a big fire. I notified the manufacturer because the Sam's Club product listing had a photo saying the model number was EFMIS175-BLACK, which has been recalled for causing fires. But the Curtis International recall department said that the unit was actually EFMIS222-BLACK. Regardless, I believe this unit needs to be added to their recall: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/Curtis-International-Recalls-Frigidaire-brand-Minifridges-Due-to-Fire-and-Burn-Hazards-More-Than-700-000-Reported-in-Property-Damage
