Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250905-2CA1F-2147328044. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Anker 321 (purchased on Amazon November 9, 2022 Anker 321 Power Bank (PowerCore 5K), 5,200mAh Portable Charger, Compatible with [REDACTED] Sold by: AnkerDirect Supplied by: Other $24.99). Incident: I have, and frequently used an ANKER 321 POWER BANK , MODEL A1112. 5,200 mAh. for my [REDACTED]. Purchased on Amazon November 9, 2022. It was in its usual place, plugged in for charging, probably for a few days, as it commonly was. I went to get it. I noticed a sort of faint burning smell. The USB C port and the area around the plug were discolored and melted. The connector was discolored black/brown a distance of a centimeter. I could not remove the C connector, it was melted or fused into the port. It did NOT ignite. There was no fire or injuries. But it looked like it was headed in that direction if I hadn't discovered it. I don't know how long this had been brewing. I didn't know about it until that moment I discovered it as I was going to unplug it from the wall charger in order to charge my phone. I had almost 3 years of successful use of this product. I see a lot of reports about Anker problems but I did not see in my brief perusal, this particular item.
