Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250906-6DC06-5534849. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: gateway M210 (Gateway 14.1-inch FHD Ultra Slim Notebook Intel Core). Incident: The consumer explained that just 2 weeks after she purchased the laptop, she started having problems. First, it started getting too hot. After that, she thought it had a virus, so she took it to a technician and spent $179. He told her that it was not a virus, but it was a physical problem, and she had two options; one send it back to the company or use an external keyboard. She has been using an external keyboard, since she needs to use the computer. When she talked to the company, they just seemed worried about the warranty. They didn't care that they are selling a laptop that can start a fire. She found out that the laptop's battery is highly dangerous and a lot of people have experienced a fire in their property, as well as the warehouse where a company had their laptops. Two weeks ago, she realized that her laptop battery was swollen about a quarter inch bigger than usual. She is worried that her computer will start a fire while she is using it, or even when she is not around and it could burn her house. She wants the company to give her a refund so she can buy a new one, or, a replacement for another laptop that doesn't have this kind of problem.
