Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251022-1629E-2147326903. Severity: Injury, Level of care not known. Product: Pura Pura Plus Smart Fragrance Diffuser. Incident: On October 10, 2025, around 12:00 PM, my Pura Plus fragrance diffuser overheated while in normal use. I began to smell burning plastic and smoke filling the room. My dogs became alarmed before I identified the source. When I checked, the diffuser was extremely hot to the touch and caused a mild burn to my hand when I unplugged it. There were visible burn marks and melted plastic around the charging port and cable connection. The unit had been stored upright on a shelf in a dry location and used exactly as directed, with the original Pura power cord and adapter. The fragrances installed were Pumpkin Dulce and Pumpkin & Sweet Vanilla ([REDACTED]). Both cartridges were newly installed and nearly full. There was no property damage, but the smell of burning plastic lingered for several hours. I believe a fire could easily have started if I had not been home. I reported the incident to Puras compliance team on October 10, 2025. It took 12 days for the company to issue a prepaid return label (on October 22). They have stated that they will not provide any testing results or internal findings. I am filing this report to document the overheating event, delayed response, and lack of transparency for consumer safety review. I have preserved the diffuser and cord for inspection and am willing to provide it to the CPSC or a designated lab if requested.
