Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251111-B2FBE-2147326431. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: GE Profile #PGS930YPFS (GE Profile Gas Slide-in range, 30", model #PGS930YPFS). Incident: This report concerns a GE Profile 30 gas range, purchased on February 21, 2025, which presents a significant burn and fire safety hazard. Despite multiple service visits and documentation of the issues, GE Appliances has not taken corrective action and maintains that the product works as designed. A screw was violently ejected from the appliance during the first oven use, hitting the opposite wall of the kitchen (15 feet away) with force. The original oven rack did not fit properly, caused interior damage, and posed a serious burn hazard (the rack needed force to move and released suddenly). GEs recommended remedy was to apply vegetable oil as a lubricant inside the oven cavity, which is unsafe and unsuitable for high-heat environments. They replaced the original rack, but still recommend use of vegetable oil for sticking on the new rack. When the oven operates at 400F, the cooktop and grates reach between 330F and 378F, measured using both infrared and digital thermometers while all burners were off. I have documented these readings in photos and video. According to UL 858 (Standard for Household Electric Ranges), incidental-contact temperature limits are approximately 208F for metal, 227F for porcelain or enamel, and 249F for glass. The temperatures recorded on this unit exceed those limits by more than 100F, even when only the oven is active. GE technicians refused to verify compliance with UL 858, and the company responded by saying the unit is as working as designed, later placing the complaints in standby status with no corrective action or further investigation.
