Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251209-F69B2-2147325711. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Our Place APL.LWP.ESN.SLS (Our Place Large Wonder Oven Pro | 8-in-1 Digital Countertop Oven with Large 32Qt quarts | Non-toxic, Fast Quartz Heating | Air Fry, Toast, Roast, Bake, Broil, Reheat & Dehydrate | Stainless Steel). Incident: On the very first use of my new Our Place Large Wonder Oven Pro, I placed food inside, set the temperature and a 15-minute timer, pressed Start, and briefly stepped outside expecting the oven to shut off automatically when the timer reached zero. Because food was inside from the beginning, the oven became permanently stuck in Preheating mode and never started the countdown timer. It continued holding the set baking temperature indefinitely with no auto-shutoff. Within minutes the food severely charred, filled the entire house with thick smoke, and triggered every smoke detector. I returned to find the kitchen full of smoke and the food burned black. The manufacturer has confirmed this behavior is by design and that there is no safety timeout if the preheat cycle never completes. This allows the oven to cook at full temperature (up to 450 F) for hours with no automatic shut-off a clear and reproducible fire hazard. I have video evidence clearly showing the display stuck on Preheating while the food continues cooking inside.
