Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251224-2CEDC-2147325258. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: Speed Queen ADE4BRGS177TW01 (Speed Queen electric dryer, model ADE4BRGS177TW01 (DC5003WE series)). Incident: I have a Speed Queen electric dryer that repeatedly overheats during normal household use. (First service visit was February 2023.) Three of its internal rear metal grates/covers have melted over time. The exposed metal surface becomes hot enough to cause burns when removing laundry. Most recently (12/8/25) a repair technician measured the temperature near the rear grate at 750F before stopping the reading because the heat was damaging his probe; the tip of the probe melted. The dryer is reaching temperatures far above what would be expected during safe operation. The dryer has had multiple service visits and replacement parts, including installation of a lower wattage heating element and I was even advised to only run it on delicate by a service technician. Despite all of this, the overheating continues and the safety concern remains unresolved. I am reporting because I am concerned about the potential fire and burn hazard.
