Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260209-91885-2147323750. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung UN65NU6950FXZA (Samsung 65" 4K Smart TV (Model: UN65NU6950FXZA, S/N: 080D3CDK907512V)). Incident: I am writing to formally report a serious safety incident involving my Samsung 65" 4K Smart TV (Model: UN65NU6950FXZA, S/N: 080D3CDK907512V). On 2/6/2026, while shutting the unit down, the television emitted a visible spark and a loud "pop" from the bottom-left corner of the panel. This was followed by a distinct smell. I immediately unplugged the unit to prevent a potential structure fire. The TV is now completely unresponsive and, more importantly, remains a fire hazard. Upon researching this specific model and series, I discovered that this is a well-documented issue. It appears the "edge-lit" LED strips are prone to catastrophic thermal failure, which can melt the internal light guide and lead to the sparking event I experienced. There was no collateral damage nor any personal injuries.
