Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260213-56258-2147323586. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: FEODSEW WJ-SC07 (Product Name: 2-in-1 Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Combo with LCD Display Brand: FEODSEW Model Number: WJ-SC08 (Please verify this number on the sticker on the back of your unit) Manufacturer: Shenzhen Weijia Security Technology Co., Ltd. Description: This is a battery-operated (3 AAA batteries), circular white plastic alarm. It features a digital LCD screen that displays CO levels and battery status. The front has a large "Test/Silence" button and two LED indicator lights (labeled "Power" and "Alarm"). It is sold in a 3-pack on Amazon. The unit is labeled as compliant with UL 217 and UL 2034 safety standards.). Incident: I purchased a 3-pack of FEODSEW Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector combos on January 11, 2026. Recently, we had a smoke event in our kitchen. My old smoke alarm, which was installed only one foot away from the new unit, alerted us immediately. However, the new FEODSEW unit did not sound an alarm at all. To test the other units, I brought the remaining two alarms from the 3-pack into the smoky room. None of the three units detected the smoke or sounded an alarm, even though the room was clearly smoky. The 'Test' buttons on all three units work and beep when pressed, which is very dangerous because it gives a false sense of security. The sensors themselves appear to be completely defective. This failure put my small child and my elderly father at extreme risk. If my old alarm had not worked, this could have been a tragedy. The product is explicitly labeled as meeting UL 217 and UL 2034 standards. However, despite these markings, all three units failed to detect smoke during a real-world event. This suggests the safety certifications listed on the product may be unauthorized or counterfeit, as the sensors did not perform to the required legal standards.
