Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260308-4F817-2147322879. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Hoover FH51200 (Hoover Dual Power Pro Carpet Washer Model Number FH51200). Incident: I was shampooing my carpet with a Hoover Dual Power Pro (Model number FH51200) when all of a sudden flames started shooting out of the handle release area. I was extremely lucky the carpet was wet from shampooing it otherwise it would of caught that on fire. I had to rush it out the door and it continued to burn outside while I was rushing to get water to put it out. I contacted hoover to report it and they didn't care they told me that it was out of warranty. I purchased this machine and have been the only one to operate it yes it maybe be several years old but I only use it rough 3-4 times a year and throughly clean it after use. Thank goodness I was able to react quickly and get it right outside as it was burning and melting I did not get injured but it did burn holes in my pants as I was trying to carry it out it was literally on fire from the inside spewing out the handle release and up the left side. I reported it with in 20 minutes after I got the fire out and it took several weeks for hoover to respond their answer was they offered me 15% of a new one. I was not expecting them to replace but they did not care that it caused a fire and had zero concerns about it.
