Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260327-CE7C7-2147321259. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: iRobot Roomba RVE-Y2 (iRobot J6+ black with dust bin.). Incident: I purchased an iRobot J6+ robot vacuum. After a short time of owning the product the contacts for charging the vacuum melted and it didn't work. I didn't realize they were melting until I looked over the device to see why it wasn't charging. I called the company and they replaced the base. The new base did the same thing in a short time. I am on my third base now and it melted again. At what point does this become dangerous and can cause a fire? I will not be using this product any longer. But the company it not addressing the issue by either fixing the base with metal connections to keep them from melting or refunding the purchase price. Replacing with a still defective base is not fixing. Slowing the charge time does not reduce the heat produced. This is a defective and potentially dangerous product.
