Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260419-D51E0-2147320366. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Roku Voice Remote Pro RC1071 (I am reporting a safety concern involving a Roku rechargeable remote control, model RC1071 (Voice Remote Pro). The casing on the remote separated at the seam in a manner consistent with internal battery swelling. Based on the visible separation of the housing, I am concerned that the built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery is swelling and could present a fire, burn, or rupture hazard. After discovering the problem, I stopped using and charging the remote and contacted Roku support. I provided photos and clearly reported this as a safety concern involving a rechargeable remote with casing separation consistent with battery swelling. Roku did not offer a replacement because the product was out of warranty. Roku support stated that my concern would be documented, but the only solution provided to me was to purchase a new remote. My concern is that Roku is continuing to sell rechargeable Voice Remote Pro remotes while declining to provide a remedy for a reported safety-related battery swelling issue in my rechargeable remote. I am asking CPSC to review this report as a potential hazardous consumer product issue involving a rechargeable electronic device with possible lithium-ion battery swelling. No injury has occurred so far, but the product appears unsafe for continued use. I have photographs of the casing separation and screenshots of my support conversation with Roku documenting that I reported the issue as a safety concern.).
