Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260422-15044-2147320224. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Toshiba ML2-EC10SABS (Toshiba ML2-EC10SA(BS) 8 in one countertop microwave. 1.0 cb ft). Incident: My three year old Toshiba ML2-EC10SA(BS) air fryer/microwave combination turns itself on intermittently. If left unattended, it is a huge fire safety risk. It started about 6 months ago by "adding 30 seconds" on occasion while I was already using the microwave, however it has escalated to doing it on its own even when not already in use. It does not seem safe to leave plugged in, as I could expect it to add infinite time on while no one was home and cause a fire hazard. When it malfunctions this way, no other buttons are responsive and the only way to get it to stop is by unplugging the unit. It's happened many times at this point, but seems increasingly unsafe. I've only held on to it this long because I work from home and that gave me comfort to know I'd probably be around to notice an issue. I have reached out to Toshiba, whose only response was to confirm I have a proper power source and see if I've tried unplugging it to reset. Since mine is outside the warranty, they are unwilling to do anything and didn't comment on my product safety concerns for others.
