Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260426-27716-2147320099. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Keurig K-Cafe Special Edition Single Serve Coffee, Latte (K-Cafe Special Edition Single Serve Coffee, Latte & Cappuccino Maker). Incident: I was awakened by a very loud and unusual sound coming from the kitchen of my parents home. Upon looking toward the kitchen counter, I observed that the coffee maker was emitting a visible glow and flames, along with smoke and a strong burning odor. I am concerned about what might have occurred had no one been nearby to respond. The coffee maker was plugged directly into a wall outlet but was powered off at the time of the incident. It had last been used earlier in the afternoon on April 25, 2026. There had been no prior issues with the machine, including no unusual smells, malfunctions, or signs of overheating. I immediately woke my parents. My mother unplugged the unit, at which point the flames subsided. However, the machine continued to emit smoke and a strong odor. We then moved the coffee maker outside the home to prevent further risk. No other items on the kitchen counter ignited, and there was no visible spread of the fire beyond the coffee maker itself. However, there was a noticeable area of burn residue left on the countertop surface directly beneath the machine. No fire extinguisher was used, and the fire department was not contacted. There were no physical injuries, though the smoke produced a strong and lingering odor throughout the home. The coffee maker is a Keurig K Cafe Special Edition Single Serve Coffee, Latte and Cappuccino Maker, purchased on May 5, 2020. The serial number is 84.2279.0175673. The unit remains in
