Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260427-CAE6C-2147320074. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: StoveGuard Jenn-Air Model SVD48600P (StoveGuard Stove Protector Mat. This is sold as a rubber like mat precision cut for your specific stove model to help collect spills before they reach your stove top making it easier to clean.). Incident: Our StoveGuard Protector Mat spontaneously caught FIRE! We purchased it on December 11, 2025, for specific use on our Jenn Air Stove, #SG-SPFY-585868. It was received February 5, 2026. On March 2, 2026, while in proper use, the product suddenly caught on fire, setting off our fire alarm. This was an incredibly dangerous and emotionally distressing incident. I have contacted the company several times, but they refused to refund my money, citing the 14 day return policy. Callously, they have only offered to replace the product with the exact same one, and without any guarantees a fire wont happen again. They also refused to let me speak to a manager. On their website, it only warned of the possibility that the product itself can be affected under certain circumstances, but failed to warn of the possibility that the product can catch fire and cause personal injury and/or structural damage to one's home. I have seen similar fire complaints on the [REDACTED] website, Saferproducts.gov, [REDACTED], and the company's review page.
