Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260429-F8E98-2147319978. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: GE JS760SLSS (Product Information Internet # 302557708 Model # JS760SLSS Store SKU # 1002743311 Store SO SKU #1002719609 GE 5.3 cu. ft. Slide-in Electric Range with Self-Cleaning Convection Oven in Stainless Steel). Incident: My 2019 GE JS760SLSS stove was on 435 Fahrenheit fan mode for about 40 min, then I saw a low red light emanating from inside, so I opened the door. When I did, it started making a loud humming noise and sparks started flying and it seemed like it was going to catch fire. It did not trip the breaker, I shut off the breaker off manually, which stopped the noise and sparks. I aired out the room and looked inside. The potatoes that were in the oven seemed completely untouched, but the entire inside of the appliance looks like it was incinerated, like the lining had been burned off and discolored, and there is a small hole in the back of the oven, where the fan is located. This appears to be an appliance malfunction, and if I hadn't acted quickly to shut the breaker it could have seriously injured me or damaged my home.
