Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260504-386CF-2147319768. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG WM8100HVA (LG WM8100HVA is a 5.2 cu. ft. Mega Capacity front-load washer in Graphite Steel, designed for large households, capable of washing king-size comforters). Incident: I am reporting a serious safety issue with my LG front-load washer (Model WM8100HVA). During a normal cycle, a support spring clip failed and detached. The spring then cut into the metal frame, causing the drum to drop while the machine was spinning with a full load. The washer became violently unstable and moved about two feet across the floor. The failure also broke the shock absorbers. Despite this extreme imbalance, the machine did not shut off or display an error it continued spinning at high speed. I had to manually try to power it off while it was still moving, creating a significant risk of injuries This incident posed a serious safety hazard to my household. Although no one was hurt, the lack of automatic shutoff during a catastrophic failure is very concerning. I am requesting an investigation into this potential product safety defect.
